If you're re-recording only a certain part of your performance, or punching in, you'll probably want Finale to play a few seconds of the music just before the place you want to rerecord, so you can hear the desired passage in context and in tempo. The dialog box that appears when you choose this command allows you to specify how many seconds of the existing music you want Finale to play before switching into record mode.
